This post is part of the Coupang Partners program, and I receive a commission accordingly.

BLACKPINK's Deadline EP sold 1.4 million copies on day one. But which songs are actually good? We ranked all 5 tracks from worst to best - and our takes might surprise you.

1.46 million copies sold in one day.

That's what BLACKPINK's "Deadline" achieved on February 27, 2026 — breaking the record for highest first-day sales by a K-pop girl group.

But numbers don't tell you if the music is actually good.

I've listened to "Deadline" approximately 47 times. I have opinions. Some might be controversial.

Here's every song ranked from worst to best.

Quick Answer: BLACKPINK's "Deadline" is a solid return with standout tracks "GO" and "JUMP," but some songs feel formulaic. Our ranking: 5. Champion, 4. Me and my, 3. Fxxxboy, 2. JUMP, 1. GO. Overall album rating: 7.5/10.

TL;DR: The Ranking

RankSongRatingOne-Line Take
5Champion6/10Motivational but generic
4Me and my7/10Smooth but forgettable
3Fxxxboy7.5/10Attitude for days
2JUMP8.5/10Festival anthem done right
1GO9/10Finally, all four writing together

Album Overview

The Basics

  • Title: Deadline
  • Release: February 27, 2026
  • Tracks: 5
  • Runtime: ~18 minutes
  • Type: Mini album (EP)

The Sound

"Deadline" is BLACKPINK's most sonically diverse release:

  • EDM elements
  • Techno influences
  • Synth-pop textures
  • Hardstyle moments ("JUMP")
  • R&B undertones

It's bigger, louder, and more experimental than "Born Pink."

The Context

This is BLACKPINK's first group release since 2022's "Born Pink." The title "Deadline" feels intentional given their contract situation.

Is this a farewell? A statement? We don't know. But the music speaks.

#5: Champion (6/10)

The Worst Song on the Album (Sorry)

Sound: Anthemic pop with inspirational lyrics about being the best.

Problem: It's generic.

We've heard this song before — from every pop artist who wanted a sports commercial sync. The "we are champions" messaging feels corporate.

Lyrics sample:

"We're the ones they can't defeat / Standing at the top, feel the heat"

Basic. Uninspired. BLACKPINK can do better.

The good: Production is polished. Vocals are strong. It'll work at concerts.

The bad: Zero personality. Could be sung by anyone.

Verdict: Skip unless you need gym motivation.

#4: Me and my (7/10)

Smooth, But Where's the Hook?

Sound: Chill R&B-influenced track about self-love and friendship.

Problem: It doesn't grab you.

"Me and my" is pleasant. It's well-produced. The vocals are pretty. But 30 seconds after it ends, you forget what it sounded like.

The good: Showcases softer vocal abilities. Nice change of pace. Feels genuine.

The bad: No standout moment. No viral hook. Mid-tempo lull.

Best for: Late-night listening. Background music. Album completionists.

Verdict: Fine, but not memorable.

#3: Fxxxboy (7.5/10)

The Attitude Track

Sound: Hard-hitting, attitude-heavy track about being done with toxic relationships.

Why it works: It's FUN.

BLACKPINK at their best is confident, unbothered, and slightly intimidating. "Fxxxboy" delivers that energy.

Lyrics sample:

"Thought you were the one? Boy, you're just another one"

The "f-boy" theme isn't new, but BLACKPINK sells it with conviction.

The good: Hard choreo potential. Quotable lyrics. Concert crowd favorite.

The bad: Sonically similar to past BLACKPINK tracks. Safe choice.

Best for: Breakup playlists. Dance covers. Feeling yourself.

Verdict: Solid fan service. Not revolutionary.

#2: JUMP (8.5/10)

The Festival Anthem

Sound: Hardstyle meets Eurodance meets K-pop. Opens with a striking guitar riff that sounds straight out of a Western film.

Why it slaps: This is BLACKPINK going full European festival mode.

"JUMP" is designed for 50,000-person crowds with hands in the air. The drop hits HARD. The energy never stops.

Lyrics theme: Celebrating sisterhood. A night out with your girls. Friendship over everything.

The good:

  • Unexpected sound for K-pop
  • Actually feels fresh
  • Massive replay value
  • Perfect concert opener

The bad: Might alienate fans who want softer BLACKPINK. Very loud.

Best for: Festivals. Workouts. Needing an energy boost.

Verdict: The song that proves BLACKPINK can evolve.

#1: GO (9/10)

The Best Song on the Album

Sound: Powerful anthem with driving beats and layered vocals.

Why it's #1: This is the first time all four BLACKPINK members have writing credits on the same song.

After 10 years together, Jennie, Lisa, Rosé, and Jisoo finally co-wrote a track. And it shows.

Why that matters:

"GO" feels personal. The lyrics about pushing forward despite obstacles read like autobiography. The energy is defiant but vulnerable.

Lyrics sample:

"They said we couldn't, we said watch us / Ten years deep and we're still running"

(Note: Approximated based on reported themes)

The good:

  • Authentic emotion
  • All four members shine equally
  • Strong charisma throughout
  • Feels like a statement piece

The bad: Some critics say it lacks melodic individuality compared to past hits.

Best for: Fans who want BLACKPINK with substance. Anniversary celebrations. Emotional moments.

Verdict: The song fans have been waiting 10 years for.

Overall Album Rating: 7.5/10

The Good

  • "GO" and "JUMP" are excellent
  • Sonic diversity shows growth
  • Production quality is top-tier
  • Record-breaking sales for a reason

The Bad

  • Filler tracks drag it down
  • Only 5 songs feels short
  • Some songs are safe/formulaic
  • No clear "Lovesick Girls" or "DDU-DU DDU-DU" level mega-hit

Compared to Past Albums

AlbumRating
SQUARE ONE (2016)7/10
SQUARE UP (2018)8/10
KILL THIS LOVE (2019)7.5/10
THE ALBUM (2020)8/10
BORN PINK (2022)7/10
DEADLINE (2026)7.5/10

"Deadline" is stronger than "Born Pink" but doesn't reach "THE ALBUM" heights.

Fan Reactions vs. Critics

  • "JUMP at concerts will be INSANE"
  • "5 songs isn't enough after 4 years"
  • "Champion is giving corporate sponsorship"

Critics Say:

  • "Strong charisma but mixed execution" — Euphoria Zine
  • "BLACKPINK plays it safe when they could push further" — Various reviews
  • "GO shows what's possible when they have creative control"

Frequently Asked Questions

Is "Deadline" worth buying?

Yes, if you're a fan. The album's best moments justify the purchase.

Which song should I listen to first?

"GO" if you want emotion. "JUMP" if you want energy.

Will there be more songs added?

No announcements of a repackage or deluxe version.

Why only 5 songs?

K-pop mini albums (EPs) typically have 5-7 tracks. This is industry standard.

Is this their last album?

Unconfirmed. Contract negotiations ongoing. Fans hope not.

Final Verdict

"Deadline" isn't a perfect album. But it has two genuinely great songs ("GO" and "JUMP") and shows BLACKPINK can still deliver.

More importantly, "GO" hints at what BLACKPINK could be with more creative involvement from all four members.

If this is their last group album? It's a worthy ending.

If it's not? There's foundation here for something even better.
